Why did you interview Irving knowing his partisan views about Hitler?
A long correspondence could follow. Effectively Hitler had no accountability but in early 1942 a decree was passed putting his will above all law eg to change penal sentences, to deny pensions etc..
The reason T4 ended was basically because it finished and victims were only killed individually after August 1941.

I agree that Hitler rarely signed documents. The T-4 decree was written on his personal stationary. My understanding is that even less was signed by him after the program was officially ended but the program still continued for awhile. All I am saying is that the public feedback for the T-4 program only resulted in less accountability (Hitler) than before and for good reason.
I don’t agree with you on this. Hitler rarely signed anything and the T4 was an exception. One judge said it was illegal and demanded to see a written order from ‘Justice’ Minister Thierack. The response he got was that it was a Fuehrer order and that he as a judge should be able to tell it as such. The judge was dismissed.
T4 personnel were sent to the Bug river death camps from August 1941.
Hitler signed on to the T-4 programs and that turned out disastrously. There was a public uproar with many prominent/admired officials who could not be successfully imprisoned. Hitler would rarely sign to anything afterward. The T-4 program was the forerunner of the “Final Solution”. “If operation T-4 had been entrusted to the SS things would have turned out differently because the SS knows how to follow orders without causing useless uproar among the people” – Himmler (Nazi Doctors-Lifton p-95)

I don’t doubt that Bormann decided who got to see Hitler and thus had a major influence on policy. Those responsible were dead – Goebbels, Himmler, Globocnik whilst others were pretending their lack of knowlege such as Speer, Goering etc.. Eichmann was pretty forthcoming although of course he was never in contact with Hitler.
Like any boss, Hitler gave the order, subordinates did what they were supposed to do, reporting back to him every so often.
Would it be too simplistic to suggest that the reasons why Hitler was never implicated by ‘the big boys’ were that a) they had been instructed not to and b) they were shit scared if they implicated him directly they would be shot? Irving talks about Boorman and how he shielded Hitler from knowing about certain things. Could it be closer to the truth that Hitler set the wheels in motion and expected them to get on with it while he played war games?
